In May 2021, a delegation from the Innovation and Technology Bureau and the Innovation and Technology Commission led by the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Alfred Sit, and the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Ms Rebecca Pun, visited the Hong Kong Branches of the Chinese National Engineering Research Centres and State Key Laboratories established in PolyU.
Mr Sit said, “In addition to the Nation’s space exploration missions, PolyU has also been invited to participate in projects in Mainland China such as the high speed railway system, smart city development and many others, fully demonstrating the University’s research excellence in various disciplines.”
The two-day visit showcased the research and development capabilities as well as the successful technology transfer experiences of the following research facilities of PolyU:
Hong Kong Branch of the Chinese National Engineering Research Centre for Steel Construction;
Hong Kong Branch of the Chinese National Rail Transit Electrification and Automation Engineering Technology Research Centre;
State Key Laboratory of Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery; and
State Key Laboratory of Ultra-precision Machining Technology
The above research facilities were all established with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The research teams at the facilities are dedicated to collaborating closely with counterparts in Mainland China to work on innovative and impactful projects that contribute to the development of both the Mainland and Hong Kong.
